B
Class B entitles the holder to drive a motor vehicle up to a maximum permissible total mass of 3,500 kg with a maximum of 8 persons excluding the driver. Trailers that do not exceed 750 kg total permissible mass or the unladen weight of the trailer is less than that of the towing vehicle may also be towed if the 3,500 kg is not exceeded. The training takes place on a shift truck.
B197
With the acquisition of class B197, the learner driver has the same driving entitlement as with class B.
The difference to class B lies in the training. Most of the training takes place on an automatic vehicle. During the training, the learner driver drives at least 10 driving hours on a manual car and then takes a shift competence test with a driving instructor. The practical test itself, however, again takes place on a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
However, the B197 class has a small disadvantage, as the key number entry only applies to class B, which means that students have to take the following tests on a manual car in order not to be restricted to the following classes.
B78
Class B78 entitles the holder to drive a motor vehicle up to a maximum permissible total mass of 3,500 kg with a maximum of 8 persons excluding the driver. Trailers that do not exceed 750 kg total permissible mass or the unladen weight of the trailer is less than that of the towing vehicle may also be towed if the 3,500 kg are not exceeded. However, the training takes place on a vehicle with automatic transmission, which means that the licence holder may only drive automatic vehicles.
B96
The key number 96 is a test-free driving licence supplement which gives the driver more leeway in the choice of trailer, as a combination of max. 4,250 kg permissible total mass may now be driven.
BE
The driving licence class BE offers the owner the possibility to tow a trailer with a weight of up to 3,500 kg permissible total mass with his car.
